Wow.... just... wow.

I mean, for the first part of it I was in agreement with them, and then they rapidly skewed off the tracks. Yes, it's true that certain populations (Americans among them) are having drastically less babies. But it's not at all attributable to "teh gays" - it's all the professional young people who value careers over families and children (I work with hundreds of them). Sigh. These people are dumb. And scary.

I know, right? At first, it seems kinda rational, but then it skids way off the road and the look on that guy's face when he mentioned "homosexuality" totally killed me.

Plus, I'm sure there are more than enough fertility doctors to make up for the abortion doctors out there, and population is not even an issue right now. It's going up up up! Sure, it'll level off in like 50 years or so, but that would be good because we're overpopulated! So I dunno, people scare me sometimes.

Hmm... I did some research, and it looks like you're right - our population growth is at "replacement levels" right now, so no need to be concerned. I think the concern I hear voiced most often is that well-educated young people aren't having children, and thus not passing their knowledge/interests/genes onto them, so we're going to be missing a large chuck of continuity in our population. Or something. Man, I shouldn't try writing important crap at the end of the work day...

Wow. Utah is REALLY feeding into the whole Big Love "us and us and us and us..." cliché, isn't it?

I think that the "well educated young people" are just waiting longer to have kids. Both Jon(William & Mary) and Conan(Harvard) had their first kids in their early 40s. They got their careers in line before settling down and they seem to be doing just fine. On the other hand, maybe it just takes comedians longer to grow up. lol

The problem with having children later in life is that it's much much harder - many women can't, and by then it's too late. Or you can go the fertility treatment route, and you end up with twins and triplets and octuplets :) I was talking to someone about that recently, about the question of whether or not it's selfish to spend $40,000 on treatments when a) you waited too late, and b) there are many kids out there that need adoption. (sorry, I think this has become a tangent now!)

No, this is totally legit! You're right about waiting: it gets more risky as you get older... for women. Dudes can have babies until they die, because they don't have to bear the physical burdens.

And I believe adoption is an incredibly important consideration. There ARE way too many children who need families, which is why if I ever get married(who knows? You'll know when I call you from Vegas with the news teehee) and I wanted a family(again, who knows?) I'd adopt. I'm not big on the idea of pregnancy anyways. I'm such a wuss when it comes to pain. I'd rather get one ready-made. lol
